March marbles

Amazing what a little dramatic lighting can do.... these marbles were going to be called something like "an assortment of some of the ugliest marbles I've ever made"... HOWEVER.... the angle of the flash seems to have caught some of them in a way that makes them very interesting to me.... too bad they're not always this sparkly when holding them in my hand in real life.... you can click on the picture to see a close-up, if you like.

I'm still expecting at least 3 more of them to fall apart at any given moment. I did not do a great job of annealing them and there are a whole lot of stress fractures in these that are just waiting to explode. But it's nice to have now used the little kiln (not the one that needs reqiring - the big kiln is still unusable) twice and not be as afraid of burning down my garage ;)

Next steps: Use fewer colors and pick the ones i *do* use more carefully. Several of these just look "muddy".

Peep art!

OK... so this post might be a little bit cheating.... it's from *last* year, but I've been away from home and largely away from art supplies for the past week.... I made one of these.... can you guess which one? Others were made by 11frogs, Live without regrets, Leigha's mom, and Nick....

Peep Wine!

Peep UFO and alien!

Peeps waterskiing!

Peep fertility/wedding!

Peep-zilla!

My first set of lino-print cards in 2008

On recent titles....

In case you were wondering.... no, I haven't turned in to one of those conceptual art people who fill the MFA programs these days.... I'm vaguely, occasionally working on ways to make it look like I might be conceptual without actually putting too much thought/effort in to it.... or perhaps making a little fun of the folks who try so hard to be obscure/deep/whatever.... check it out: All of those titles for my most recent prints were found by hitting the "Random Search" button on wikipedia :) rockin'! There's only one that I changed because I thought the idea of a "freetrog" was much more interesting than a "treefrog" (no offense to any frog loving people who I know read this blog ;)

Here are links to the articles, in case you are bored & want to read more about them:

March intentions

so... there wasn't as much actual February art as anticipated... though there *were* a lot of posts of art from the last year..... there are a few other panels still waiting to be done....

Here are February's results:
- photograph the ceiling tile mural
- post photos of ceiling mural
- track down four three delinquent painters
--- D
--- K
--- L
--- J
- post photos of those last few tiles
- re-wire kiln
- decide on a 23.5" x 15.5" design for a stained glass window
- create the window!
- rehabilitate clay & glazes
- decide which (if any) art events to participate in

Which are now morphing in to March intentions:
- silent auction
--- make the item(s)
--- photograh & post them here
- re-wire kiln
- track down those last three ceiling tile painters
--- K
--- L
--- J
- post photos of those last few tiles
- rehabilitate clay & glazes
- spend more time playing with hot glass (making marbles, pendants, etc)
- create the window!
--- grind down the edges
--- wash & dry all pieces
--- wrap with copper foil
--- burnish the copper foil
--- solder the window
--- ?patina?
--- install the window

March intention #1 is about 75% done. Yay!
